Jake Hoover Lewis, 84, formerly of 1049 Berry Road, Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
He was born in Johnson County, Tenn., to the late Grant Winburn and Lynnie Lewis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Morris Lewis, in 1997; a sister, Beulah Harper; and an infant daughter.
Mr. Lewis retired from the City of Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Division after 32 years of service. He was a member of East Side Christian Church and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Story and husband Richard, Hampton; three sons, Jeff Lewis and wife Karen, Kingsport, Randy Lewis, Elizabethton, and Tim Lewis and wife Sandra, Elizabethton; grandchildren, Randy Jr. of Florida, Casey Lewis, Kingsport, Erin Dunn, Radford, Va., Kristin Waters, Elizabethton, and Leah Story, Hampton; great-grandsons, Dakota Lewis and Caleb Waters; and three sisters, Ruth White, Elizabethton, Marie Davis, Mountain City, and Wanda Lee Campbell of North Carolina. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Lewis will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, June 21, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Randle Johnson officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Dry Creek Singers. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, in the Colbaugh Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Clay Bailey, members of East Side Christian Church and Mr. John Smith. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession.
