Jack J. Jenkins, 87, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Monday, April 15, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Fred Clinton and Dora Belle Sims Jenkins.
Jack served in the United States Army during World War II, where he was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a retired nurse’s aide at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center after 36 years of service. After his retirement he worked at Food City for 15 years. Everyone loved Jack’s smile and friendliness and help at Food City. He was a member of Hampton Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ilena Pearl Davis Jenkins, December 23, 2012; a son, Gregory Lynn Jenkins; three brothers, Blaine, Paul and Carl Jenkins; and three sisters, Ruby Tunney, Mary Thurman and Dorothy Hubbard Hill.
Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Davis, Valley Forge; a son and daughter-in-law, Fred W. and Janice Jenkins, Apopka, Fla.; three precious granddaughters, Kimberly Davis, Jonesborough, Tena Davis, Providence, R.I., and Katrina Heath and husband Wesley, Piney Flats; a special great-granddaughter, Angel Heath; his loving special dog, “Scampy”; several nieces and nephews; a very special nephew, Gene Hubbard and his wife Patsy, who were always there to help him out with anything, and Lee and Terry Hubbard, with Terry always making him the candy he loved; and his very special friends, Kim Johnson, Phillip Shull, Carolyn Street and Kathy Grant, who always came to visit and bring cards and was quick to assist him and daughter Pam with house cleaning.
Funeral services for Mr. Jenkins will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Hobart Bradshaw and the Rev. Marvin Slagle officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, in the Jenkins Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, will be Lee Hubbard, Mike Hubbard, Darrell Reece, Phillip Shull, Joshua Hubbard, Bobby Tester and Brian Pierce. Honorary pallbearers will be David Jenkins, Larry McKinney, Arvil McKinney, Gene Hubbard, Bobby Reece, Homer Sims, Bill Jenkins, Elwood Duvall, Phil Shull, Wesley Heath, Jim Mason, Ken Moon, Ted Thurman, Lee Jenkins and Kay Mason. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion and the Tennessee National Guard. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
