Jack G. Blankenship, 81, of Elizabethton, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Blankenship was born in North Fork, W.Va., to the late Moses and Josephine Guthrie Blankenship.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Dessie Heaton Blankenship; a son, David Lynn Heaton; a brother, Waddy Blankenship; a granddaughter, Katrina Heaton Nye; three great grandchildren, Jonathan Nye, Christopher Thomas, and Dalton Moffitt; and a sister, AnnaJean Tedder.
Mr. Blankenship was a retired electrician for North American Rayon Corporation and a member of First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie Heaton, of the home; and Sue Moss and husband Luke, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Andy Wetzel and wife Jenny, Danny Wetzel, Jessica Heaton Feathers and husband Jeff, Joe Heaton, Wendy Heaton, Krystal Heaton Thomas and husband Pooh, all of Elizabethton; and Candi Heaton, Coralville, Iowa; eleven great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Pat Blankenship, Elizabethton; and a brother-in-law, Gid Tedder, Oneida, Tenn. Several nieces and nephews also survive, along with a special cat, “Bogey.”
The funeral service for Mr. Blankenship will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Ray Amos officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service, or at the residence, 163 River Road, Elizabethton at anytime.
The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Daniel Wetzel, Joe Heaton, Gregory Tester II, David Vance, Rusty Blankenship and Andy Wetzel. Honorary pallbearers will be all former co-workers of North American Rayon Corporation, J.D. Cable, David Blankenship, Shawn Fagan, Jeffory Feathers, Luke Moss, David Tester, William Ball, Gregory Tester I, and Robert Pace.
