Jack Dempsey Crowder, 79, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at his residence after a brief illness.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Grady and Vira Crowder.

Jack was a 1951 graduate of Elizabethton High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was retired as a fence installer and mechanic.

Jack was a member of the American Legion Post No. 49. He was of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Miller Crowder; his children, Brenda Nelson and husband Donald, JoAnn Scrivani and Marie Persinger, John Crowder and wife Karen, all of Massachusetts, and Mechelle Livingston, Elizabethton; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Mary, Sheena, Leah, Jeremy and Whitney; one brother and five sisters.

A memorial service for Mr. Crowder will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, September 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Alan King and Pastor Adam Williams officiating. The graveside service and inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, September 24, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Monday to go to the cemetery.
