Ilena Pearl Davis Jenkins, 86, of Valley Forge, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 23, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at the Hermitage Nursing Home.
A native of Elizabethton, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Annie Boweling Davis. She had lived all her life in Elizabethton.
Mrs. Jenkins was a retired nurse for many years at Carter County Memorial Hospital and Ivy Hall Nursing Home.
Ilena was a member of the Valley Forge Church of God and attended the Heartland Fellowship Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Gregory Lynn Jenkins, and a sister, JoAnn Trivett.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Jack J. Jenkins; a daughter, Pamela Davis, Valley Forge, a son, Fred W. Jenkins and wife Janice, Apopka, Fla.; three granddaughters, Kim Davis, Jonesborough, Tena Davis of Rhode Island and Katrina Heath and husband Wesley, Piney Flats; a great-granddaughter, Angel Heath; several special nieces and nephews; special friends, Carolyn Street and Kathy Grant; a special sister-in-law, Delores Jenkins; and her best friend and companion and pet, Scampi.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jenkins will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 27, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Slagle and the Rev. Hobart Bradshaw officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, December 28, in the Jenkins Cemetery in Valley Forge. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Friday, will be Bobby Reese, Darrell Reese, Gene Hubbard, Mike Hubbard, Lee Hubbard and Lee Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers will be David Jenkins, Larry McKinney, Arvil McKinney, Allen Johnson, Lester Bennett, Bobby Tester, Phil Shul, Elwood DuVall, Bill Jenkins, Wesley Heath, Homer Sims and Jim Mason. The family would like to thank the staff of Hermitage Nursing Home and Caris Hospice for the wonderful love and care they gave to our wife and mother. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at her residence.
