H.M. Eggers

H.M. “Smoky” Eggers, an Irving, Texas resident for 33 years and previously from Tennessee, Oregon, South Carolina and North Carolina, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013. He was born February 12, 1927 in Butler, Tenn.
Mr. Eggers was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in WWII. Smoky worked for the Boy Scouts of America for 39 years and retired as Executive Director of Baptist and Evangelical Relationships in 1991. He was a member and deacon at Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving, a member of The Gideons, Prayer Fellowship of Christian Scouters, and also The Association of Baptists for Scouting. His hobbies were reading, hiking and camping.
Smoky was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Alexander and Etta Rose (Julian) Eggers, and is survived by his wife, Inez Eggers of Irving; daughters, Rachel Heavner and husband, Don of Lindale, and Debbie Bain and husband, Greg of Louisville, Ky.; sons, Joe Eggers and wife, Sandra of Irving, and James Eggers and wife, Tuni of Austin; grandchildren, Jeremy Gimble, Cassie Rodriguez, Graham and Will Bain, Jared, Kristina, Jordan and Sergey Eggers and Ana and Jonathan Cymerman; great-granddaughters, Corley and Lucy Bain and Ryleigh Rodriguez; and siblings, Wayne Eggers, Thelma Cutshall and Louise Hyder, all of Elizabethton.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, at Plymouth Park Baptist Church. Committal services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 31, at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas.
