Georgia A. Ikerd

Georgia A. Ikerd, 98, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Hillview Health Center, Elizabethton. She was a native of Watauga County, N.C., but had lived most of her life in Carter County.
Mrs. Ikerd was the daughter of the late Lee and Jennie Gragg Moody. She was born January 29, 1914. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R.R. Ikerd, and sisters, Snow Shouse, Zada Lowrance and Maxine Duncan, all of Elizabethton, Pauline Byrd, Newhall, Calif., and Hazel Favichio, New York, N.Y.; a brother, Earl Moody, Watauga County, N.C.; and also an infant grandson, George Brickey.
Mrs. Ikerd is survived by her two daughters, Kathryn and husband Tommy Brickey and Denise and husband Phil Jones, all of Bluff City; four grandchildren, Kathy Hardin and John Brickey, Kirkland, Wash., Elizabeth Abel, Boone, N.C., and Susan Martin, Keller, Texas; two step-grandsons, Travis and Curtis Jones; and four great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Brickey, Simon and Isaac Abel and Adelaide Martin.
Mrs. Ikerd was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton and the Philethes Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the current Mission Class and the Elizabethton Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Ikerd was a graduate of Elizabethton Business College. She worked in the City School System for several years. She loved gardening and each summer she looked forward to canning and preparing fruits and vegetables for freezing.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ikerd will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dean Smith officiating. Music will be provided by her granddaughters, Elizabeth Abel and Susan Martin. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. To those who prefer, memorials may be made to the Carter County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 776, Elizabethton, TN 37644. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the wonderful staff of Hillview Health Center for love and care given our mother.
