Fred Marshall Grindstaff Sr., 71, of Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at his residence, following an extended illness.
He was the son of the late Jess and Maude Matheson Grindstaff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pennie Grindstaff; a son, F. Marshall Grindstaff Jr.; and by several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Grindstaff was a retired mechanic and was of the Baptist faith. He loved fishing and talking on his CB radio, where his CB handle was Ragtop/Dirty Shirt.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Brenda Baird Grindstaff, of the home; a daughter, Angel Keaton and husband Lonnie, Olive Branch, Miss.; two sons, Michael Grindstaff and wife Sheila and David Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton; one step-daughter, Tammie Ford of Elizabethton; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Andrew “Andy” Grindstaff and wife Geraldine, Elizabethton; and a very special friend, Ralph Mitchell of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Grindstaff will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 19, in the Garland Cemetery in Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at 10 a.m. at the funeral home in Elizabethton to go in procession.
