Frank P. McKinney Jr., 78, of Elk Park, N.C., went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 23, 2012, at Life Care Center of Banner Elk, N.C., following a brief illness.
He was a native of Avery County and the son of the late Frank P. Sr. and Emma T. Ollis McKinney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Anita Yvonne Fields McKinney, on March 11, 2009; two brothers, Ralph McKinney and Earl McKinney; and two sisters, Helen Lowe and Daisy Hughes.
Mr. McKinney had worked in road construction. He attended Green Valley Baptist Church.
Mr. McKinney loved fishing and was a warden for Elk River Fishing Club.
Survivors include a special friend, Lina Garland, Plum Tree, N.C.; three daughters, Elaine Crane, Elk Park, N.C., Carolyn McKinney, Jefferson, N.C., and Joanne Paolini and husband Darryl, Nahunta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Gordon Leon Crane Jr., Elk Park, N.C., Frank Roy Crane and wife Carrie, Knoxville, Nathaniel W. Clawson and wife Beth, of China, Christopher J. Clawson, Boone, N.C., and Jessica M. King, St. Augustine, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Maximillian W. Clawson, Isabel W. Clawson and Kirin W. Clawson, all of China, and Mason Crane, Knoxville; two sisters, Ann Ollis, Plumtree, N.C., and Wilma Boone, Roan Mountain; and three brothers, George McKinney, Johnson City, A.D. McKinney, Roan Mountain, and Jimmy Allen McKinney of Florida. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. McKinney will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 27, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, Tenn., with the Rev. John McCoury officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, or at his residence in Elk Park, N.C., at anytime. The graveside service will follow in the Bellview Cemetery in Cranberry, N.C. Active pallbearers will be grandsons, a granddaughter and other family members. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors.
