Edward Wayne Pierce, 77, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, February 11, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Roda, Va., he was a son of the late Charles and Barbara Baker Pierce. He had lived most of his life in Carter County.
Mr. Pierce served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. He also served in the Tennessee National Guard for 20 years retiring in 1995, having served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Mr. Pierce retired from the Great Lakes Research Corporation and also the Maintenance Department of the Carter County School System. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the Elizabethton Golf Course, and on the Board of Directors of Northeast Community Credit Union. He was a faithful member and Trustee of Moores Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
Mr. Pierce leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 53 years, Faye Richardson Pierce; children, Barbara and Phillip Nave of Elizabethton, Chuck and Debbie Pierce of Piney Flats, Stephanie Pierce of Elizabethton and Richard and Tracy Pierce of Elizabethton; grandchildren, Leslie Houghton, Sara Romaneck, Lexy Pierce and special granddaughters, Susie Rutledge and Lacey Pittman; grandson, Mason Pierce; two great-granddaughters, Trinity Houghton and Emma Rutledge; great-grandson, Brayden Houghton; brother, James Pierce and wife Phyllis, Elizabethton; and three sisters, June Shelton, Kingsport, Vivian and husband Bill Smith, Elizabethton, and Sharon and husband Norris Shell, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Pierce will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, February 15, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Greg Largent, Brother Clarence Phillips and Brother Ernest Garland officiating. Music will be by Holly Church, Ronnie Blevins and Lisa McGovern, pianist. Interment will be in the Blevins Cemetery at 11 a.m. Saturday. Family and friends will meet at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go to the cemetery. Military Honors will be given by the American Legion. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Pallbearers, who are requested to be at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. Saturday, will be selected from family members. Honorary pallbearers are former co-workers at the Carter County School System and Great Lakes, his church family, golfing buddies and his special friends, Ed Bare of Greensboro, N.C., and Billy Ray Person of Roda, Va. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Carter County Rescue Squad. Box 776, Elizabethton, TN 37644. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
