Dulaney Hughes


Master Sergeant Dulaney “Dee” Hughes, 72, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton, Tenn.
“Dee” was born on May 18, 1940 in Roan Mountain, Tenn., to the late Roby and Lillian Hughes. He lived his entire life in the Roan Mountain area.
“Dee” graduated from Happy Valley High School and later dedicated 26 years to the U.S. Air Force from which he retired as Master Sergeant. “Dee” was a member of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Hampton, Tenn. He spent his time working with computers and also enjoyed listening to country and gospel music.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Durrett, and brother, Carl Hughes.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marie Gullion Hughes; daughters, Angla Lenoir Hughes, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Tina Gullion, Weber City, Va., and Anitra Lane, Old Hickory, Tenn.; sons, Eric Hughes, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Darren Gullion, Bristol, Tenn.; a sister, Thelma Hill, Gray, Tenn.; a brother, Kenny Hughes, Kingsport, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will have a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23, in the chapel of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Ted Lewis officiating. The church is located at 733 Piney Grove Road in Hampton, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church in loving memory of Mr. Dulaney Hughes. The family would like to give special thanks to Roy and Jeanette Street, Pat and John Waycaster, Vivian and Kenny Cordell, and all the ladies of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church and the entire church family.
