JOHNSON CITY — Dr. Billy Dale Pruitt, 63, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Dr. Pruitt met his beautiful wife, Dorothy, at an Old Log Church in Valley Forge, Tenn., and together they started their family and ministry. Bill was a loving and caring husband, father, and pop-pop to his family. He was a traveling Evangelist and missionary most of his life, preaching his first message when he was 12. Since then, he has touched and blessed many lives through his ministry and also through an everyday friendship to everyone he met.
Dr. Pruitt has pastored churches in Upstate, New York, Elizabethton, Tenn., Jonesborough, Tenn., and was the Associate and Outreach Pastor at Calvary Church in Boones Creek, Tenn., for 13 years. He continued his education in ministry as an adult and received his doctorates degree at the age of 55. Many people looked to Dr. Pruitt as their mentor because of the example that he was. His laugh was very contagious as he was the life of every party, and brought joy to everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his parents, M.B. “Speedy” and Frankie Ann Stonecipher Pruitt; two brothers, Clyde Leon Pruitt and Millard Calloway Newport; sisters, Burdie Newport Gantt, Thelma Pruitt Malone and Barbara Pruitt Bloss; and brother-in-law, G.W. Malone.
