Donald L. Bartlett Sr., 83, of Elizabethton, Tenn., died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Pine Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
A native of Coldspring, N.Y., he was the son of the late Leigh Daverne and Estella Parkins Bartlett.
Mr. Bartlett was an electrician. He was active in the Kiwanis Club in New York where he had been a past president. He moved from New York to Reston, Va., and then to Elizabethton in 1994 where he came to retire.
Mr. Bartlett attended Unaka Baptist Church in the Stoney Creek community.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Cherryl Bartlett and Susan Bartlett, and a granddaughter, Melissa Bartlett.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary A. Bartlett, of the home; seven children, Patricia Hills and husband Dennis and Donald L. Bartlett Jr. and wife Janice, all of South Dayton, N.Y., Daniel A. Bartlett and wife Rachelle, Blue Springs, Mo., Jon Bartlett, Elizabethton, Mark A. Bartlett and wife Lynn, Independence, Mo., Penny Lynn Bartlett, Reston, Va., and Jose M. Flores Bartlett, Elizabethton; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Houghton and husband Leonard, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Bartlett will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Walker Roberson and Rev. Bryan Smith officiating. Music will be under the direction of Cathy Collins and Kirk Carrier. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 until 11 a.m. Saturday, prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Wilson Cemetery, Stoney Creek community. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Unaka Baptist Church Building Fund, 1598 Highway 91, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
