Charlotte M. Elliott Buckles, 83, of Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late James and Mahalia Oliver Elliott.
Mrs. Elliott was a homemaker. She was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Buckles Jr., in 1981; three brothers, Clinton, Granville and Howard Elliott; three sisters, Venita Morley, Thelma Fletcher and Maggie Williams; two infant brothers and one infant sister.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Peggy Buckles, Jerry and Jinnie Buckles and Dwyane and Dora Buckles; five granddaughters, Tammy Keller and husband Doug, Stephanie Stout, Tracy Grindstaff and husband “Taz,” Lori Cadle and husband Bart and Tiffany Buckles; one grandson, Timmy Buckles; eight great-grandchildren, James, Lexi, Ethan, Gabriel, Sophia, Titus, Lahkia and Micah; and two sisters, Wylmetta Buckles and Geraldine Brooks. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Buckles will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, February 28, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Doug Hardin and the Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Music will be provided by Danny and Beth Hilbert and Cathy Wilson. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday, will be Timmy Buckles, Doug Keller, “Taz” Grindstaff, Bart Cadle, Bobby Smith, Josh Smith, Ben Smith, Danny Hilbert and Randy Buckles. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Willow Springs Baptist Church, the staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton, Tony Smith, Johnny Birchfield, Gerald Buckles, Sid Crumley, Ted Taylor and her nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Jinnie Buckles, 477 Nave Hollow Loop, Elizabethton.
