He was the son of the late Uriah and Virgiline Guess Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Juanita Davis; three brothers, Terry Bradley, Jerry Bradley and Wayne Thompson.
Mr. Davis was born in Montgomery County, Ohio. He was retired from Modern Forge Manufacturing and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict.
He attended Phillipi Baptist Church in Elizabethton.
Survivors include two daughters, Diana Teal and husband, Edward, Johnson City and Thelma McGowan and husband, Doug, Johnson City; three sons, James Horton and wife, Eleanor, Knoxville; Paul Davis, New Rochelle, NY; and Vondale Wells and wife, Janelle, Columbus, OH; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Cummings, Johnson City; and special friend, Vera Kay Williams, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Davis will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday prior to the service in the funeral home chapel.
The graveside and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Those who wish to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Monday.
