BURNSVILLE, N.C. — Carolyn Hughes Holsclaw, 60, of Johnson City, Tenn., passed away unexpectedly due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Tuesday, July 9, 2013.
A native of Henson Creek in Avery County, she was a daughter of the late Johnny and Nola Wise Hughes. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Lula Belle Hughes, and brothers, Ted and Butch Hughes.
Carolyn loved gardening, especially her flowers and strawberries, and collecting porcelain dolls, but most of all she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughters, Teresa McFalls Flowers and husband, Billy, of Elk Park, and Angel Hughes Dugger and husband, Andrew, of Licklog; sisters, Helen Dellinger and husband, June, of Spear, Margie Hughes, of Spear, Euna Bentley and husband, Allen, of Newland, Ruby Wise and husband, Wilburn, of Spruce Pine, and Brenda Trivette and husband, Charles, of Spruce Pine; brothers, Jim Hughes and wife, Colleen, and Doug Hughes and wife, Gail, all of Henson Creek; grandchildren, Tamara McFalls and fiancé, Josh Horney, of Elk Park, Ryan McFalls and wife, Paige, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., Amber Flowers Nelson and husband, Shane, of Elk Park, and Aaron and Austin Dugger of Licklog; and great-grandchildren, Rylee and Paislee McFalls, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., and Emma Nelson of Elk Park. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Burleson Chapel on Henson Creek with Rev. Chris Nance and Rev. Jody Almond officiating. Interment will be in the Pittman Cemetery on Henson Creek. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 until 4 p.m. Friday, prior to the funeral service.
