Burna M. Pierce, 89, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at her residence following a brief illness.
She was a daughter of the late Maynard and Carma Williams Collins and was born in Carter County on July 11, 1924. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Pierce; three brothers, Earl Collins, Willard Collins and Arthur Collins; and two grandsons, Randy Fortner and Gary Fortner.
Mrs. Pierce was a member of Nidiffer Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Joann Reed and Maggie K. Nidiffer, both of Elizabethton; one son and special daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Eula Lee Pierce, Elizabethton; four sisters, Lola Bowers, Novella Heaton, Betty Edwards and her husband, Andy, all of Elizabethton, and Myrtle Gillian and her husband, Kenneth, Knoxville; two brothers, Luther Collins and Bobby Collins, both of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Jeff Pierce and his wife, Kathy, Greg Pierce, Robin Carpenter, Tammy Blevins and her husband, Butch, and Jill Hart; four great-grandchildren, Steven Oliver, Michael Carpenter, John Orrand and his wife, Crystel, and Mary Orrand; five great-great-grandchildren, Eli Tetrault, Lily Tetrault, Iona Orrand, Henri Orrand and Amelie Orrand; a special nephew, Michael Collins; and several other nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. Pierce will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 28, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Bill Watson and Pastor Albert Bentley officiating. The music will be provided by Christie Oler, soloist, and Sue Bowers, pianist. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the funeral service in the chapel, and at the residence of her son, Lawrence Pierce, 175 Berry Hill Road, Elizabethton, at other times. The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service on Saturday in the Buckles Cemetery with Pastor Bill Duncan officiating. The music will be provided by Howard and Vivian Hammonds. Active pallbearers will be Dallas Pierce, Lawrence Pierce, B.I. Watson, Tommy Pierce, Michael Collins, Jack Clark, Bruce Oler and Dewey Oliver. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Clayton Briggs, Jeff Graybeal, Bobby Hart, Eddie Nidiffer, Blaine McAmis, Kirby Carpenter, Tracy Hermann and all special members of Nidiffer Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Ivy Hall Nursing Home and Amedisys Hospice for the love and care given to Mrs. Pierce during her illness.
