Brad Markland

Brad Markland, 37, 140 Hampton Creek Road, Roan Mountain, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012, as the results of an automobile accident in Banner Elk, N.C. He was a native of Carter County.

Brad was a 1993 graduate of Cloudland High School and a member of the Highlanders Football Team. He also graduated from the Herman Robinson Vocational School.

Brad was employed in the Maintenance Department at Sugar Mountain. He attended Morgan Branch Free Will Baptist Church.

He loved to hunt, fish and watch football on television. Brad was a loving husband, father and son.

Survivors include his wife, Samantha Stevens Markland; his children, Carl, Nina and Hope Markland, of the home, and Ethan Markland, Elizabethton; his father, Charles Markland, Roan Mountain; his mother, Teresa Pritchard Nidiffer, Watauga; a sister, Kimberly Dawn Hartley, Hampton; his paternal grandmother, Pearl Markland, and the late John H. Markland; his maternal grandmother, Edna Cole of North Carolina, and the late Junior Pritchard; his step-grandmother, Shirlene Pritchard; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, including a special niece, Heather Buckley; his mother-in-law, Nettie Stevens; and his father-in-law, Richard Stevens.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 3, at Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Rick Birchfield and the Rev. Randy English officiating. Music will be provided by Gail English. Interment will follow in the Moreland Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:50 p.m. Saturday, will be Carl Markland, Hope Markland, Nina Markland, Jerry Buckley, Ray Ledford, Mat Birchfield, Todd Markland, Jeff Deals, Scott Potter, Kenneth Jarrett and Wade Jarrett. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Lunceford, Dan Winters, Gary Oakes, Gary Keith, T.C. Webb and members of the 1993 Highlanders Football Team, Cloudland High School. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. The family will receive friends from noon Saturday until the service hour at 2 p.m. Condolences to the Markland family may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
