Betty Jean Oliver Ward, 74, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center.
She was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Walter Bud and Ethel Marie Miller Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James T. Oliver, and her second husband, Arnold Ward, and two sisters, Shirley McNeal and Georgia Cole.
Mrs. Ward was a retired textile worker, having retired from Leon-Ferenbach Company. She was a member of God’s House Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Melton and husband Robert, Kingsport, and Bonnie Sparks and husband Fred, Elizabethton; two sons, Ricky T. Oliver and David J. Oliver and wife Christy, all of Elizabethton; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Brenda Carr, Elsie Evans and Ruth Hilbert, all of Elizabethton, and Helen Markland, Roan Mountain; and a brother, Jack Wilson, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Ward will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 15, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Jerry Davis officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, or at the residence of a son, David Oliver, at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, August 16, in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Hampton. Active pallbearers will be Will Evans, Bobby Gordon, Skyler Buchanan, Joe Trivett, Jamie Hill, Thomas Cooper and Tommy Roberson. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession.
