B. Elmer Irick, 78, of Butler, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Thomas and Etta Oakes Irick.
Mr. Irick was a retired heavy equipment operator. He had lived in Coos Bay, Ore., for many years before returning to Butler about 20 years ago.
Mr. Irick was a member of the Elk Mills Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Irick; a daughter, Peggy; a son, Terry; a sister, Vista Bowman; and a brother, Jack Irick.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Irick, Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Ted Irick, Roan Mountain; two sisters, Norma Dugger, Elizabethton, and Lois Morrell, Piney Flats; and a special friend, Helen Teague. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Irick will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, February 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Andy Lunceford and the Rev. Gary Bowman officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23, in the Walnut Mountain Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the Elk Mills Christian Church at 1:20 p.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
