Mrs. Arlys Belle Shell Higgins, 81, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord on Monday, December 17, 2012, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center, following an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Hubert Raymond and Faithie Irene Shell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Houston Higgins, and by six sisters and five brothers.
Mrs. Higgins was a life member of Morgan Branch Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Connie Harrald and husband Albert of Elizabethton, Kathie Mensch and husband Robert of Elizabethton, Donna Jean Roberson and John Raulston of Rockwell, N.C., and Janet Cowie and husband Robert of Independence, Va.; twin sons, Douglas Higgins and wife Stephanie, and Darrell Higgins and wife Irma, all of Lenoir, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Conley Shell and wife Pauline of Roan Mountain; sisters-in-law, Peggy Shell, Jessie Shell, Lucille Price and husband “Hoot” Tipton, Ada Sanders and husband Belve, Judy Sparks, Saundra Shelton and husband Q.L., and Linda Waddle and husband Bob; and brothers-in-law, Richard Higgins and Carroll Higgins. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A celebration of Mrs. Higgins’ life will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 20, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Danny Cook and Rev. John Henry McCoury officiating. Special music will be provided by Lisa Poole. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, or at the home of a daughter, Connie Harrald, 115 Jones Road, Elizabethton, Tenn. The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, December 21, at Richardson Cemetery in Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Frost, Michael Harrald, Andrew Roberson, Joshua Higgins, Houston Higgins and Roy Humphrey. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Harrald, Robert Mensch, Bob Cowie, Danny Cook and Walter McKinney. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Friday.
