He was a son of the late Walter and Beatrice Dumas and was born in Henry County, Tenn. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margie L. Bowers Dumas.
Mr. Dumas retired from the TVA and was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a member of Phillippi Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a part of the original eight men’s chorus. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Loyal Sun Masonic Lodge No. 350 and was active with the Community Information Center.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Willie McClain and Maggie Dumas, and a brother, John Bob Dumas.
Survivors include one daughter, Connie Baker, Elizabethton; one granddaughter, Georgetta Robinson, Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Jimmie Dumas, Paris, Tenn.; special nieces and nephews, Teresa Parker and her husband, Danny, of New Jersey, George Robert Bowers, Elizabethton, Loretta Bowers, Elizabethton, Cynthia Brady and her husband, Keith, Johnson City, and William Bowers and his wife, Jane, Elizabethton; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mr. Dumas will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, October 18, at the Phillippi Baptist Church with Rev. Joseph Hollifield, Rev. D. Johnson, Rev. Ernest Widby, Rev. Jeannette Clarke, Rev. Bestman, Rev. James Reddick and Rev. Terrance Turner officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Phillippi Baptist Church Men’s Chorus. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 2 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, and at the residence at other times. The graveside service and interment will follow at Bowers Cemetery with Military Honors to be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be James Bass, Keith Brady, Bill Bowers, Dillard Richmond, Robert Bowers, Chris Collie, James Wash and Anthony Newton. Honorary pallbearers will be Mac Trammell, Michael Crawford and members of the Phillippi Baptist Church Men’s Chorus. The ladies of Phillippi Baptist Church will serve as flower girls.
