Nicholas Willen assigned public defender, motions deadline set10:57 am | September 27, 2013
A juvenile charged as an adult in a murder case has been assigned a public defender and a motions deadline has been set in the case.
Judge Stacy Street assigned 15-year-old Nicholas Willen a public defender for his trial. Willen has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder following an incident on Dec. 16, 2012 on Cash Hollow Road in Carter County that resulted in the death of 16-year-old Elijah McKinney. McKinney, a student at Happy Valley High School, died as a result of injuries he received after being allegedly stabbed by Willen.
Street set a deadline of Dec. 4 for motions filing in the case. Willen will appear in court again in January when a trial date will be set. Street expects the trial will take place in June.
