NHRA: Johnson aspires for Bristol breakthrough

BRISTOL — For some, it can be a season-changer.
Last year’s Ford Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway served as both a heartbreaker and motivator for Greeneville’s Allen Johnson.
The closest race in NHRA Mellow Yellow Series history didn’t produce the outcome desired by the home team, but it sparked a historic run to a Pro Stock title.
Now Johnson is looking to achieve the next big goal on his list, a Bristol win on Father’s Day, when NHRA’s stars return to Thunder Valley next weekend.
“My dream would be to give my dad a Father’s Day present here at my home track,” Johnson said Tuesday during the track’s NHRA media preview. “It’s really special here because of all of the employees and family in the area that support me and allow me to do what I do all year.”
