Two allegedly found
Lt. Thomas Smith of the Carter County Sheriff's Department said he and Constable Willie Mathes were patrolling the Buck Mountain area when they observed the ATV traveling on Buck Mountain Road. Because ATVs are not permitted on public roads, Smith attempted to stop the four-wheeler. Smith reports that the ATV turned onto Roby Miller Road and increased its speed.
Man pleads guilty to setting fire to house
A man charged with setting fire to a vacant home on Friday pleaded guilty to reckless burning and public intoxication charges on Tuesday.
Bad date case bound over to grand jury
The case against a man accused of stealing and later crashing his date's car in March will be heard by the Carter County grand jury.

A county man has been charged with setting fire to a vacant home on Friday morning.
Parrish named chief of staff for DoD Task Force in Virginia
A former chief deputy of the Carter County Sheriff's Department has joined a Department of Defense task force that conducts criminal investigations of suspected terrorists.
Inmates flood jail
The first incident was reported at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Friday. The incident was discovered when water was found leaking into the courtroom. Bill Whitley, a maintenance person for the Carter County Sheriff's Department, investigated the incident and found a hole in the shower drain of the jail's A-Block.
Woman indicted on two counts of theft over $1,000
A woman was arrested Sunday night on grand jury indictments charging her with two counts of theft over $1,000.

Little Milligan receiving extras to benefit students
Little Milligan Elementary has received multiple upgrades and additions in the past few months as it has recently become the focus of a community effort to benefit the school.

City schools enrollment
The system has a total enrollment of 2,280 students in the its three elementary schools, junior high and high school. This is 160 more students than was enrolled in the system last year.
Jailers get hands-on training with city firemen
In the event of a fire at the new Carter County Jail, the Elizabethton Fire Department can reach the facility in about two minutes. During those two minutes, however, the corrections officers are responsible for the care of the inmates and employees in the building.
Non-profit agencies assist the community in various ways
The Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce held its monthly breakfast Thursday morning and also sponsored a non-profit day to allow the different Chamber of Commerce members that are non-profit agencies to share how they assist the community.

Carter BOE retirees honored during meeting
Three retiring members of the Carter County Board of Education were honored with words of praise from several people during Thursday's board meeting.
Washington Co. deputies, Butler
Officer Chris Adkins, 30, Officer Scarlett Dennison, 42, and Butler resident Jamie Walsh, 32, each paid fines of about $250 on charges of possessing alcohol in a prohibited area, public nudity and public intoxication. Adkins was additionally charged with child endangerment, because his 2-year-old child was asleep in a nearby tent.
Edens responds to comments made during WRRWA meeting
Elizabethton City Manager Fred Edens issued a response Thursday on behalf of the City of Elizabethton to comments reported in an article in the Elizabethton STAR on Thursday regarding the Watauga River Regional Water Authority meeting to settle the North Elizabethton utility water bill.
Stun gun robberies...
The Johnson City Police Department reports that they arrested Starla H. Hoss, 23, of 125 Nave St., Hampton, on three counts of aggravated robbery. According to a press release, Hoss was identified as one of three suspects involved in robberies at three Johnson City businesses where a stun gun was used.
Caregiver pleads guilty to taking woman's medication
A Kingsport woman pleaded guilty this week in court to charges of taking prescription narcotics from a terminally-ill woman she was caring for in Carter County.
