New session of ‘Kidzeye Theatre’ scheduled for July 15-18 at JCCT

With the addition of “Kidzeye Theatre” acting workshops to its  line-up this summer, the pitter patter of young performers was heard on the floor boards at Johnson City Community Theatre earlier this month. Heading up the program are Director/Playwright Chris Bernstein and Theatre Manager Thomas Townsend.

Bernstein and Townsend noted that “Kidzeye Theatre” is an established and well-received program.

Their method of workshops and scripts was published in a self-titled book back in 1995, with at least a dozen more plays added to the collection since then.

“We’ve been endorsed by Denver Public Schools, and Rainbow Day Camp,” Bernstein said.

An interesting tidbit noted by Bernstein focused on the fact Joanne Greenberg, who penned “I Never Promised You A Rose Garden,” was an “angel contributor” for the project.

During the workshops, students learn stage presence, blocking, character development and much more. As a culmination of all of their fun and learning, the cast will perform their production for friends and family.

“The camaraderie and support I’ve received since joining  Johnson City Community Theatre has been an inspiration,” Bernstein said. “I realized very quickly that the sheer enthusiasm of this very special group of people would ensure the success of  Kidzeye’s arrival to Johnson City.”

The next workshop will run from July 15-18, Monday-Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a performance of “Fountain of Age” on Friday, July 19, at  7 p.m. An actors call will be held at 5 p.m.|

Tuition is $150. For more information or to enroll, call 926-2542 or email kids@jcct.info.
