On Tuesday evening, West Side Principal Doug Mitchell was told that he would be given a teaching position at T.A. Dugger, instead of maintaining his position as principal.

Director of Schools Ed Alexander officially submitted his personnel report Tuesday, listing Mitchell, who had been principal at West Side for five years, as a non-rehire at the school. The report says Mitchell is to be transferred to a teaching position at T.A. Dugger Junior High School effective June 11.

Mitchell said the outcome was not what he had been hoping for, and that he has not decided whether to stay in the system with the teaching position at TAD.

“We are taking it one day at a time until another decision has been reached,” he said. “It is what it is. Obviously this was not the action we were looking for. We think there are other avenues that could be pursued for change.”
