The R.C. Weston era kicked off at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse, and the new Milligan College coach gave his swimmers a passing grade.
“We swam well,” Weston said on Friday night after the Buffs battled with Union and Lindsey Wilson. “We’ve been working hard for our winter training, and so expectations for it were they were going to be pretty sore. They swam through it, and actually they were very strong today.”
Milligan’s men defeated Wilson 52-43, but lost to Union 76-19. The Lady Buffs prevailed over Union 51-43, before losing to Wilson 51-43.
In the combined team total, the Buffs came up short to Union 119-70 and edged Wilson 95-94.
Individual winners for Milligan’s women included Katryn McKinney in the 200-meter freestyle and Sarah Walsh in the 400-meter individual medley. McKinney clocked a 2:22.53 to defeat Wilson’s Sarah Wood (2:25.51), while Walsh’s 5:37.08 bettered Wilson’s Elena Nikolaeva (5:39.34).
On the men’s side, the Buffs’ Evan Alfano pulled out a thriller (1:09.25-1:09.33) over Wilson’s Johnathan Hindman.
