Virginia Intermont has proven to be the upstart darling of the Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball season, pushing perennial power Tennessee Wesleyan for league supremacy.
But Friday belonged to Milligan College at Anglin Field. The Buffs held off VI 4-3 in the opener of a three-game series.
“That team right there is probably one of the most improved teams in the conference, by far,” Milligan coach Nathan Meade said. “That’s a good win. They’re a good team.”
The Cobras (16-7, 7-3) led 3-2 in the fifth inning. Another score was prevented when shortstop Luke Kirk fired home to catcher Brandon Malone for the second out.
