Mayflower, IGA prevail in Rookie League play

Mayflower Restaurant defeated Omni Source 5-2 in the first half of Friday’s 8U double header at Larry Brown Field.

Teddy Orton’s two RBIs were huge for the yellow and brown charges as they gave the youngsters a lead they would not relinquish. Solid performances from Colby Chausee, Carson Peters, Steven Perry and Jackson Taylor also helped Mayflower prevail offensively in a contest in which both teams learned about fundamental baseball.

Omni Source did not go away quietly during the entireity of the game’s brief duration due to time limit. Solid outings from Nicholas Wilson, Jesse Hardin and Matthew Wilkins allowed the team with Happy Valley colors to stay within striking distance before the game was called in the third due to time constraints.

The second half of Friday night’s doubleheader was a dandy that saw IGA capture a 6-4 win over J’s Corner.

The contest, which featured three lead changes, really gave both teams offensive headway as they both compete to catch Farm Bureau Insurance in the 8U ranks.

Jacob Williams, Caleb Franklin and Conner Johnson are becoming a potent three-headed attack for the J’s Corner bats, and it was their combined play that really got the scoring underway in the game.

Williams’ three-run double to drive in Franklin, Johnson and Seth Carter gave J’s Corner a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom half of the first Inning.

IGA would counteract the strong offensive performances from Eli Ayers, Zac Workman and Collin Morgan. Morgan would display the most prowess with a 2-RBI double to give IGA its first lead of the night in the bottom of the first.

Andrew Little, Avery Scalf, Elijah Martin and Ethan Hyder also turned in solid performances for IGA in the win.

The game lasted only three innings due to time constraints.
