From serving up treatments as an ear, nose and throat specialist in Johnson City to serving up volleys across the nation, the tennis lifestyle has been good to Greeneville native and Milligan College alum William T. Mathes.

Mathes, 93, was inducted into the Tennessee Tennis Patrons Foundation on Saturday evening during a ceremony hosted at the Milligan College tennis complex — named after Mathes himself.

The ceremony was partly highlighted by celebrity exhibition, round-robin matches that included some of East Tennessee’s own Hall of Fame members — Dave Mullins, William Pike, Bob Helton and Rogers McCall.
