Master Gardener to present program March 2 on vegetable gardening

2:43 pm | February 27, 2013

Master Gardener Ben Hunter will give a talk on vegetable gardening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 2, at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park in Elizabethton.

His talk is sponsored by Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area and the Northeast Tennessee Master Gardener Association.

A gardener for more than 64 years, Hunter presently maintains more than 100 raised garden beds at his home. He has implemented several techniques that eliminate much of the back-breaking work of gardening, which include the use of raised beds and an extensive use of compost. He is a certified Master Gardener, retired chemist and retired volunteer fireman.

Hunter’s presentations are part of a series of informative gardening presentations planned in 2013. His program will be held in the theater of the visitors center at Sycamore Shoals.

He is scheduled to present programs in August and October. His talks will be open to the public and geared toward all levels, from current gardeners to anyone who might be interested in gardening.

Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park is located at 1651 W. Elk Ave., Elizabethton.
