TAZEWELL, Tenn. — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the fatal shooting of a gunman by a Claiborne County sheriff’s deputy.

A TBI investigation is routine in an officer-involved fatality.

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, 52-year-old Terry Massengill was killed Saturday in a confrontation with two officers.

TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm said Massengill was shot once. Deputies had gone to Massengill’s house to arrest his son, Brandon Massengill, who was charged with being drunk and disorderly in a road rage incident.

Helm said the elder man pointed a gun at the deputies and one of them shot him.

There were no other injuries.

Results of the TBI investigation will be turned over to the district attorney’s office.
