An Elizabethton man faces a second-degree murder charge in a 2011 shooting incident along Reynolds Road.

Israel Benjamin Goudy, 32, of 257 Reynolds Road, Elizabethton, is in custody on the murder charge, as well as tampering with evidence.

Goudy is accused of shooting Larry Wayne Whittaker on Oct. 17, 2011, at the Reynolds Road property.

Investigators said Goudy originally claimed self-defense in the incident, in which he sustained stab wounds. However, Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes said investigators later learned Goudy allegedly fabricated the crime scene and had actually stabbed himself after shooting Whittaker.
