Longhorns rally to best Happy Valley4:09 am | May 1, 2013
Johnson County pulled off a burglary on Tuesday night at Cannon-Gouge Park and made away with a victory. Rallying from a 3-0 deficit, the Longhorns scored five unanswered runs to defeat Happy Valley 5-3 in nine innings to end the Three Rivers Conference season on a good note.
Things looked kind of bleak for the ’Horns until the fifth, when they broke lose for three runs to tie the game at 3-3.
A stellar pitching performance allowed them to stay in the contest, with Ryan Mahala going a strong 71⁄3 innings before giving way to Henson. Mahala allowed four hits and totaled eight strikeouts over that span. Henson threw no-hit baseball the rest of the way to pick up the win.
“We’re starting to get performances from Ryan Mahala down the stretch that we expected, and we’re hoping it carries over into the tournament,” said Pavusek. “We need other guys who can step up too, and Jacob Henson did a good job of that tonight. It was a great job on the mound by both of them. It might have been the shot in the arm needed for us.”
