Longhorns get past Happy Valley

A golden opportunity to get its fourth win of the season slipped through Happy Valley’s fingertips on Tuesday.
Johnson County turned three offensive rebounds into seven points late in the fourth quarter, leading to its 53-46 win.
It made the moment sweeter for head coach Austin Atwood, who was highly upset with his team’s play at the half. He said the final two quarters were much better from an effort and rebounding standpoint.
“I thought we played harder and rebounded with some intensity in the second half,” said Atwood. “Dempsey and Timbs came out and played the second half with a different mentality — taking the ball to the rim and crashing the boards. This team has to scrap and play hard in order to win. I didn’t see that in the first half.”
