BLUFF CITY — Rejection hurts, and on Tuesday night at Patriot Palace, Sullivan East was feeling the pain of rejection as Johnson County senior post Brian Dempsey blocked three early shots in the paint.

The end result of a solid defensive and rebounding effort was a 49-33 Longhorn win in a Three Rivers Conference contest.

Dempsey scored 14 points, blocked three shots and also recorded nine rebounds and two steals. The ’Horns had a combined seven steals in an effort that frustrated East’s shooters into a 3-for-19 night from beyond the arc.

“We defended really well tonight,” said Longhorns head coach Austin Atwood. “(Gavin) Grubb and (Anthony) Vanhoy are two good shooters and we held them to 14. I think Dalton Timbs did a good job on Vanhoy, not letting him get any good looks. I think that frustrated him.”
