Long-sitting judge to retire

In the spring, Judge Lynn Brown will hang up his black robe and leave behind his gavel.

Before calling his first case in Carter County Criminal Court Wednesday, Brown announced his retirement, effective at the end of March, made official by a letter sent two days earlier to the governor’s office.
“It’s been a good run,” he told the court staff, attorneys and defendants waiting for their cases to begin. “I’ve been doing this for over 24 years, but it’s time for a younger man to do this job.”
