Local teams fare well in Area-1 openers

The Area 1 tournaments for middle school basketball teams opened up Saturday with several Carter County teams in action.
Hampton, Happy Valley and Little Milligan boys earned wins in the quarterfinals of boys play while the Lady Warriors advanced to the semifinals on the girls’ side.

Blountville 25
Chris Holtsclaw tossed in 22 points and recorded six steals to lead Hampton to a first-round win in the 1-AA event at Sullivan Central.
Happy Valley 50
Sullivan North 34
Austin Hicks scored 14 points and Sam Blevins added 12 allowing Happy Valley to down Sullivan North by 16.
Little Milligan 54
Grandview 38
Charlie Butler and Jose Velazquez combined for 45 points, leading Little Milligan to a win over Grandview in the first round of the 1-A event at Ridgeview.
