It’s an American tradition that ranks right up there with mom’s apple pie and baseball. It’s the yearly Girl Scout Cookie Sale, and across the country Girl Scouts are already taking initial orders for cookies.
Led by Eveleigh Stewart, Mandi Grindstaff and Beth Barbe, local Troop 81 is once again among the thousands of Girl Scout troops nationwide selling eight different types of cookies.
“Cookie sales started Friday, Jan. 11, and the girls are taking initial orders,” Stewart said. “Booth sales start March 1 and continue every weekend in March through March 24. Favorite booth sale locations in the area include Wal-Mart, Food City and Sam’s Club — just to name a few.”
Stewart noted that more booth locations will be set up, and readers can go to www.girlscoutcsa.org and click on the “Booth Locator” button to view additional booth sale sites or to order cookies in advance.
For 2013, the Girl Scouts are sticking with the tried and true when it comes to the cookies they are offering the public.
“The cookies are the same types as last year,” Stewart said. “There are no new ones this year.”
