A slight increase in registered voters in Carter County could mean more people going to the polls in the coming weeks for November’s general election.

“I expect it to be a big election,” said Carter County Administrator of Elections Tracy Harris. “We had over 10,000 the last presidential election just for early voting.”

Monday was the deadline to register for the upcoming election, and Harris said her staff completed counting registration forms on Tuesday. Even though Monday was Columbus Day, the election commission office remained open for registration.
