’Landers seek strong league opener

Cloudland didn’t take long to celebrate its 21-18 win over Happy Valley once Monday’s football practice began. That’s because they’ll be facing some “Angry Birds” on Friday night in Cosby.
The Highlanders and Eagles will tangle in the conference opener for both teams. And the boys from Cocke County are fuming after getting plucked in their first two outings.
A 47-7 loss to West Greene last week came on the heels of a 55-0 setback to Pigeon Forge in their season opener. It was also a pair of games they were expected to lose.
Head coach Brock Pittman knows the importance of this game for his Highlanders. They come in ranked seventh in the Class 1-A Associated Press poll, but a win by the Eagles would definitely bring some much needed happiness to the nest.
