The Lady Jr. Rangers spotted Happy Valley an early seven-run lead at Cannon-Gouge Park Saturday morning, but in the end Unaka left with the trophy for the Little Watauga tournament championship with an 11-10 win.
“That rally talks about the kind of team we have,” said Rangers head coach James Pearson. “We kept our heads in the game and kept getting base hits and digging out runs. I am really, really proud of them.”
Tournament Most Valuable Player Macie Herrmann drove home the winning run in the last of the seventh with a base hit to left to propel the Rangers to the win, topping off a contest of highs and lows for both teams and a sensational championship game.
