Lady Jr. Longhorns finish third in tournament

Led by a sterling performance from Faith Poteet, Johnson County’s middle school softball team capped its season with an 18-10 victory over Hampton in the Little Watauga Conference tournament consolation game this past Saturday at Happy Valley.
Banging out two triples and a double, Poteet accumulated five RBIs. Maddi South tripled and drove in four runs for the Lady Jr. Longhorns, with Marly Eggers accounting for three of Johnson County’s 17 hits.
Michala Cretsinger and Anna Reece each contributed a double.
Courtney Brooks worked all seven innings for the pitching win, racking up nine strikeouts along the way.
Kaitlyn Ellison was good for a pair of Hampton hits, with Shyanne Tuelle collected two RBIs.
Tuelle pitched the entire game for the Lady Jr. Bulldogs, totaling six strikeouts.
The Lady ’Horns cut loose for eight second-inning runs before Hampton scored four in the bottom of the frame, making it a 9-6 game in favor of JCMS.
