Lady Highlanders, Rangers score 1-A wins

JOHNSON CITY — Cloudland broke through with a monumental victory, Unaka breezed and Hampton is still alive following the opening round of the District 1-A softball tournament at Betty Basler Field.
The Lady Highlanders defeated Hampton 4-2 to began Monday afternoon, before closing the night with a 10-0 loss to top seed University High. Unaka disposed of North Greene 6-1.
In an elimination game at 4:30 today, Hampton (3-15) faces North Greene (14-15). At 7 this evening, Unaka (9-9) meets UH (21-13) in the winners’ bracket final and berth in the Region 1-A semifinals on the line.

The Rangers got off to a rocky start with two errors to open the game, but roared back with six runs in bottom half of the first.

UH eighth-grader Ari Ramsaran wreaked havoc on the Highlanders in going 3 for 3 with a three-run homer and two doubles.
The Lady Junior Bucs’ Haley Faulkner hurled a one-hit shutout, striking out seven.
