Trying to shoo off Johnson County was like trying to run off a stray dog after you’ve fed her a few times.
Elizabethton’s quest to put away some pesky Lady Longhorns proved to be just as difficult for three quarters until fatigue and four trouble too over. The Lady Cyclones’ 53-32 win was decisive, yet the game was still on the line after three quarters.
’Betsy coach Len Dugger was not happy with his team’s play, but praised Johnson County’s coach for turning that program around.
“I have so much respect for Coach Todd Whittemore and what he’s done for that basketball program, said Dugger. “His kids are doing some really good things and I applaud them for that. But we didn’t play well — got outhustled and that’s unacceptable. We have some kids who think if I’m not shooting good, then I’m not going to do a lot of other things well either.
“Finally we started wearing them down with our pressure and had just enough spurts in the game to open it up.”
