Lady Cyclones state bound after stopping Alcoa

Elizabethton’s seniors rose to the occasion on Saturday night, in the largest stage of their prep careers.
Whitney Roberts cut loose for 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Reazyn DeMoss came through with eight clutch points in the fourth quarter, as the Lady Cyclones overcame Alcoa 45-36 in the Class AA sub-state playoffs at John Treadway Gym.
Elizabethton’s girls thus advance to the state tournament in Murfreesboro for the fourth time, and the third occasion in the past six years under Coach Len Dugger.
“Whitney made some tough buckets,” Dugger said. “It’s the same old scenario. We’ve got a group of kids that are just playing really well together, and playing unselfish. I knew Alcoa, when I watched them, that they were aggressive and athletic.”
