ERWIN — Elizabethton absorbed Unicoi County’s best punch, and moved on.
The Lady Cyclones prevailed 3-2 in Monday night’s District 1-AA volleyball tournament. Elizabethton meets top seed Sullivan South in this evening’s semifinals at 7.
“We felt like we played so well, and I just looked across the net and Unicoi was playing just as well,” Elizabethton coach Leslee Bradley said. “Both teams both really, really played strong and played their hearts out. We just felt like like we had a few more weapons than they did, and so that was the difference of the ball game.”
In the earlier match on Monday, Sullivan North eliminated Johnson County 3-0. North plays East at 5:30 today.

The Lady Longhorns were not at their sharpest, and defeated 25-15, 25-7, 25-20.
“We worked on serve-receive all week, and that’s been our downfall all year,” Johnson County coach Eric Crabtree said. “We probably had more mistakes. They played well, but we didn’t serve-receive.
“We didn’t pass well, we didn’t set well, we didn’t attack well and you can’t expect to win many ball games like that.”
