Lady Cyclones drop 2-1 heartbreaker to Greene Devils

GREENEVILLE — Elizabethton made the opening statement. Greeneville answered and had the last word.
The District 2-AA champion Lady Greene Devils overcame an early deficit and got the better of a wall-to-wall defensive battle with a two-out, full-count RBI single from Kayla Woods in the bottom of the sixth to outlast the Lady Cyclones 2-1 in Region 1-AA semifinal play at Hardin Park.
“When she hit that ball it was two outs and full-count,” said Elizabethton coach Leanne Click. “It could have gone either way and we could still be playing. That’s just the game. That’s what makes it exciting.”
In a well-pitched, well-defended game on both sides, errors were minimal and hits were a premium in the contest as Greeneville ace Jordan Fortel and Lady Cyclone Lindsey Cunningham went toe-to-toe.
