The Lady Warriors and Bulldogs hooked up in what played out as the “Panty-Hose Bowl” Tuesday night inside of Bayless Gymnasium. A game of “Runs” ended with Hampton having the final say in its 66-53 win.
For three quarters the affair swung back and forth, with neither team able to pull away from the other. The ’Dogs put it away in the final two minutes, shooting 12-of-18 from the charity stripe.
Despite Hampton’s four-point lead, coach Leon Tolley would scold his team at halftime.
“We didn’t rebound well in the first half and we challenged them at halftime,” said Tolley. “They’re a good team and they play just like us. I was beginning to wonder if we were going to have the last run or not. We executed our offense and made some shots over the last five minutes of the game.
“We missed some shots and free throws at the end, but we’re working on that. Anytime you can you get a road win over a tough team like Happy Valley, then you have to be pleased.”
